Decks

A timber deck is a fantastic way to extend your home and your  entertainment area without the cost or drama of a major home extension.

Decking comes with one smooth side and one reeded side. It can be used either side up but the smooth side up is recommended so that rain runs off easily, prolonging the life of the deck and making it easy to keep clean. Your deck can be painted, stained or saturated with a clear decking oil to prolong its life.

Decks are also an ideal way to convert a steep or rocky back garden into an outdoor oasis. Decks and verandas are built up off the ground, which means they won’t interfere with the natural drainage of your site. Timber decking absorbs far less heat than masonry products so it is much cooler under foot, which is important around swimming pools.

Merbau Decking

Merbau decking is also available.  Merbau decking is popular due to its dark reddish brown colouring,

Handrails

If your deck or pergola is more than one metre off the ground or if you
have children or pets you will need to consider a handrail. Ironwood® handrails

Pergolas

Pergolas provide shade, privacy and protection from the rain so you can enjoy your outdoor living area all year round. A pergola may be freestanding or attached to an existing building or perhaps part of a combined deck-pergola structure.

Archways and pergolas are structures that can be beautiful features in themselves, but they can also lead from one garden area to another, frame a view, or serve to lead the eye from one spot to another. They provide support for climbing plants, showing them off to great advantage and can play an important part in good garden design.

Adding a pergola to your home can improve its appearance enormously. It can soften hard architectural lines, especially with 2-Storeyhomes, make the house structure look longer or wider and of course, provide a colour break especially with masonry/brick homes. Features such as pergolas can certainly make any garden look attractive.

Primed H3 laminated posts (link to structural page) are ideal for above ground pergola construction. Being pre-primed, these posts are easy to paint and have an attractive smooth face. They are also great for veranda posts. Rougher Header (link to RH page) H4 and H3 timber is ideal for both in ground and above ground construction.
